If I had a nickel for every time a person said to me in my legal career that they had “an excellent lawyer” when I knew deep down, they had an average lawyer at best, I could have retired already! Same thing with real estate agents, doctors and brokers! How many times have you heard “I got a guy!” or “You should use my guy! He is excellent!”  People confuse “charismatic” with excellence and competence. Having spent more than 20 years in civil litigation and been in real estate since 2007, I have dealt with many attorneys, paralegals, doctors, real estate agents and real estate brokers. Believe it or not, they are not as “excellent” as you think. A few of these lawyers who were on TV, I battled against at the Workers’ Compensation Commission and I not only beat them badly, I NEVER lost a case AND I did it without my J.D. Law Degree! Now, do I know all attorneys or doctors? No. Do I know all real estate agents or brokers? No. Can I tell when many attorneys are milking cases or dragging their feet? Yes. Can I tell when another real estate agent or broker is incompetent? Yes!

At Sanford REI, we prided ourselves on being able to refer what we believed were the most competent attorneys to help serve your real estate needs the best. Many of the attorneys we referred out for 18 years also worked with the same financing people we can referred so there was a familiarity there between them and that helped our clients get their deal done more efficiently! As I no longer am a real estate broker as of March, 2025, it is up to you to find a competent real estate transactional lawyer.  Try to find one that ONLY does real estate transactions!
